Specialized-lululemon
Did y’all know that lululemon has a women’s cycling team?
I didn’t, until I walked into Aaron’s favorite bike shop and gasped when I saw a female mannequin rocking a Specialized-lululemon jersey and helmet — the same ones worn by the cycling team members. So cute!
Aaron was amazed, too. Apparently, he’d been secretly trying to find the jersey for me for months...
Exciting news!

Sorry, not that kind of exciting news. I just had to trick y’all for a second. : )
The diamonds in this ring have been passed down through my family on my mother’s side. A family friend, Mrs. Mandry, gave them to my great-grandmother in the form of earrings. The Mandrys had no children, so great-g got the bling!
She passed them on to my grandmother,...
Comeback 5K training plan
The last run I blogged about was a two-miler a week ago, but I didn’t comment on the pain in my right knee that I felt at the end and that lingered through the following day.
I decided to take a day off from running to be safe. That, of course, turned into five days… and then I got a strange 24-hour cold over the weekend… and finally, today, I felt totally back to normal and...
Thoughts from the uphill
Fitness is a lot like money — it takes a long time to build up a good amount, and a fraction of that time to lose it.
Every bit of it must be re-earned.
I thought about this as I slogged uphill tonight in my mom’s neighborhood.
I kept thinking about how I used to be able to run five times as far with what felt like a fraction of the effort. Hills like the ones I ran up tonight were no...
The old run-and-lift
Does anyone else have the need to feel that your running shoes are tied just tightly as each other before you can run?
Sometimes I get it right the first time and don’t think twice; other times, like this morning, I start running and have to stop a few times to re-tie my shoes until they feel just right.
I’ve been known to tie and re-tie my shoes about a million times before races....
You know the feeling
…when you’ve been putting off running and just dread it for no particular reason?
And then as soon as you take that first step, you realize, “Ahh, yes, this is great! Why was I putting this off?”
Yeah. Me. Today.
It’s been very hot by Seattle standards (mid 90s) these past few days and I just couldn’t wake myself up in time to run early in the morning....
1,000 "Likes" for Aaron
Thanks to everyone who clicked “like” on Aaron’s entry to a Facebook contest by Enve Composites, he is a top-three finalist to WIN the grand prize of a trip to the UK for a professional bike fitting!
The top three entrants were so close that Enve Composites decided to pit them against each other once again to determine the final winner.
If you need no more convincing to help...
Recovery
Aaron got through his shoulder surgery on Monday with flying colors and was released from the hospital the same day.
See that black bag hanging around his neck? Inside it is a “pain pump” that delivers medicine through a catheter in his neck to numb the surgery site.
Today, the pump ran out of medicine, and per the doctor’s instructions, I. took. the. catheter. out. (He said...
Long run
Today is Aaron’s last hurrah before his shoulder surgery tomorrow. We’re not doing much — just relaxing and going to see a movie — and he’ll probably be bed/couch-ridden for the next few days.
Please say a prayer, send out good vibes and/or think good thoughts for a successful surgery and speedy recovery!
Pre-injury Aaron says, “Maholo!”
This morning I woke up a...
Wedding day
My friend Amy’s wedding is tonight, so I just ran two miles this afternoon — enough to get my heart pumping, but not enough to kill my legs. I want to be able to dance my face off, should the opportunity arise.
I walked for about 15 seconds during mile two, but that was it! Happy times.
I wore for the first time this pink Brooks tank that I forgot I had. It’s a soft, breathable...
Now this is hardcore... →
runlong:
Maybe some Olympic spoilers there, so heads up!
Holy sh*t. This is the definition of BEAST MODE.
Morning run
I ran three miles around a practically empty Green Lake this morning. I didn’t have to dodge as many people/dogs/strollers as usual, and I only walked about 0.3 miles of this run!
I’m up to 10 miles so far this week. Whaaaa?? It feels so good to be back.
And it feels so good to have my jeans fit better.
And to eat some things I want to eat and not feel guilty because I’m...
Perceived limitations are stupid
I’ve been limiting my runs to fewer than 3 miles and going into each workout with set distances I’ll run and walk.
I’ve been afraid to push too hard and possibly reinjure my ankle.
I’ve been too paranoid.
Today, I decided I’d just run when I felt like running and walk when I felt like walking. I didn’t limit my distance.
And I’m extremely happy with...
Another injury (and a comeback)
Oops… he did it again.
Aaron busted his left shoulder while mountain biking this weekend. The injury is similar to what he did to his right shoulder two months ago, except much, much worse. “Every ligament is completely torn” is not something you want to hear a doctor say!
We’ll know more (whether he needs surgery or not) when Aaron can get in to see an orthopedic...
MILEstone
Today, for the first time since my accident…
I ran a mile straight through! HAPPY DANCE!!
I was huffing and puffing by the end of it. I really need to rebuild my stamina, but my ankle didn’t hurt at all, not even afterward!
I actually did two miles of 0.25 running/0.10 walking right before doing the full mile, so today’s total was three miles. I’ve been afraid to push...
