Paleo, Day 2
I have no idea whether this has anything to do with eating paleo yesterday or not, but I woke up this morning at 7 a.m. without an alarm.
That’s not something that just happens for me. As I’m currently a FUNemployed traveler on hiatus, I have little reason or motivation to get up before 10:00. Or 11:00. Or noon.
But this morning, I woke up at 7:00 even though my alarm was set for...

Today's eats
I won’t bore you with what I eat every single day, but I thought it might be interesting to see what I ate on Day 1.
I was working with whatever my mom had in her kitchen up until just before dinner, when I went to the grocery store and stocked up on all things paleo and delicious.
Breakfast:
Three rosemary scrambled eggs and a whole tomato. Crush dried rosemary with your fingers and...
Paleo, Day 1: The Before
OK, Tumblr, it’s about to get real.
I haven’t written too much before about weight and body image because, since I began running in late 2010, those things haven’t really been an issue for me. I consistently trained for races, which meant lots of cardio and generally eating healthy foods, and in late 2011 I added swimming, cycling and weight-lifting to my workout regimen....
Trying on running clothes when I can't run
The good news is that I’m mostly hobbling around my mom’s house without the help of crutches!
The bad news is that it’s a serious hobble — nothing close to a normal walk, and I’m probably still weeks or months away from running.
But I can still try on my new running gear and get excited to run again, right?
You may remember that Brooks sent some clothes to my...

I’m so, so, so happy to be back in Seattle!
It’s raining like hell today and I don’t even care. It’s just good to be home!
A good Seattle rain on my birthday is a gift in itself.
I’m celebrating by looking back on the last three months of my 24th year — the time I spent traveling through New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Yosemite.
This...
Going home
I’m flying back to Seattle todayyyyyyy!
Someone’s excited.
I’ve neglected my other blog quite a bit these past few weeks, so here’s a catch-up post:
From Thailand to Seattle to Yosemite… On Crutches
You guys may know most of that stuff already, since I’ve posted about it here, but there’s some new… mysterious… stuff at the end.
See you...
Scenes from Yosemite
Oh, California. You are warm and sunny and not humid. I love you.
I also love my dad and my brother.
I love the incredible views all around Yosemite, and seeing my little second cousins running around all over the place (they are the four kids on the walkway, and the big guy is my cousin heading over to keep them in line).
I love that my granddad, who passed away in September, set aside...
Saving the day
Once upon a time, I arrived in San Francisco on crutches after 18 hours of flying from across the world.
As an airport employee pushed me in a wheelchair to baggage claim and grabbed my pack, he asked, “Do you have anyone picking you up?”
“No,” I replied wearily. “It’s just me.”
I crutched my way onto a shuttle van and went to my hostel. I crutched up...
The most epic comeback
This just popped up on my newsfeed… PERFECT timing.
A truly EPIC injury comeback/fitness journey video about a disabled veteran who was told he’d never walk unassisted again — it’s a must-watch!
Warning: You will cry.
Final day of scuba diving
My diving logbook says, “The worst day of diving is better than the best day at work.”
I’m pretty sure that’s true, but I wouldn’t really know, since I had a great last day of diving today.
I mastered the “James Bond entry” — a forward flip off the boat that makes you look like a badass.
I struck a pose over a shipwreck.
And I swam…
