For Mommio
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my beautiful mother! Seriously, isn’t she stunning?
On her birthday last year, I wrote:
You’re the best mom a girl could ask for, and I’m lucky to have been raised by such a smart, funny, independent and classy woman.
You’ve taught me to live consciously, to be wise with my money, to be respectful of my health, to love reading and learning. You gave me a place to live...
Catching up
I’ve now left my little island paradise — and these epic sunrises — behind.
Monday:
Tuesday:
Ridiculous. There’s something about waking up at the crack of dawn specifically to watch the sunrise that makes the rest of the day so much better.
Now I’m… on another island paradise. Pardon me for the lack of variety.
This time, I’m on a mission to get my...
Backward and forward
Once upon a time, I was a badass.
I ran a sub-2 half-marathon on one of Seattle’s hottest days.
I jumped over fire.
I took on a triathlon without really knowing how to swim.
And I ran the shit out of a 4:15 marathon.
Now?
I haven’t run in 16 days.
I probably couldn’t run more than 5 miles, and even that would be a struggle.
I’ve lost so much muscle.

Thai foods I will miss
OK, so these are just packaged foods, but deal with it.
BANANA CAKE: Tastes exactly like your mom’s homemade banana bread, but is conveniently packaged for easy breakfast or snack consumption for 12 baht (39 cents) from 7-11.
You cannot throw a rock in Thailand without hitting a 7-11, by the way. Tomorrow I’m going to a remote Thai island that has not changed much in the last 20...
For your Tuesday.

Do it.
Exercising Around the World
And in stark contrast to what I just posted, my friend Steve Kamb clearly did a better job of staying in shape while traveling than I’m doing. I will try not to hold it against him.
Check out his cool video about exercising around the world!
Singapore in food, lights and more food
This weekend I blogged my little heart out about my time in Singapore:
Part I: Durian, Dim Sum & Dripping Sweat
Part II: The Chili Crab Feast
Part III: The View From the Top
If you’re super-bored on a Monday, you are welcome.
If you’re super-hungry, I apologize!
The heat! My God, the heat!
Happy Boston Marathon weekend!! On behalf of all the runners who either worked so hard to qualify or raise money to run, I’m so upset about the heat issue (expected to hit 87 degrees F). I would absolutely lose it if I trained my butt off for this race and then couldn’t run. Sad, sad, sad face. : (
It is currently 100 degrees on the nose in Chiang Mai, but I ain’t running...
Songkran 2012
Sawatdi Pi Mai! (Happy New Year!)
All of Thailand is in the midst of celebrating Songkran, the Thai New Year, and Chiang Mai has the biggest, baddest, longest celebration of all — so that’s where I am, of course!
The celebration is essentially a multi-day water fight, and you can’t go anywhere in the city without becoming instantly soaked by squirt guns and buckets of (often...
Singapore sunrise
You didn’t really think I was just not gonna run in Singapore, did you?
Hell no! This city is way too beautiful not to go for a spin around the Marina Bay Reservoir.
I got about five hours of sleep and seriously considered bagging the run, but then I decided that life is short I can sleep when I’m dead. Good decision.

On my last day in Australia...
…I made some new friends!
Fred the koala.
And a shit-ton of kangaroos (video).
