Airlie Beach run
Helloooo. This is where I’m living for the next few days.
This was the peaceful hostel at 8:45 a.m. Now imagine guys and gals tanning, swimming and listening to vulgar rap music. Welcome to Airlie Beach!
I set out for a four-mile run a little late. I meant to wake up at 7:00, but my phone died overnight (poor thing can barely hold a charge anymore) and I woke up closer to 8:00. After a...
Three-mile ass-kicking
Feel free to hate me for this:
I know. Do the ridiculous running routes ever end?
I just spent two days on Fraser Island playing on beaches and hiking barefoot and flying in sketchy little planes and being eaten alive by mosquitos. Now I’m back in Hervey Bay, and I busted out three miles early this morning to try to beat the sun and heat.
I can’t run as far or as fast as I used...
Swag
Hey, remember when I awkwardly pranced around modeled for a Brooks runway show back in November? (Here’s the full story behind that — it’s a good one.)
Brooks offered a “swag bag” as compensation for participating in the show, but I never received one… until today!
OK, so my mom received it at her house in Washington, but she was kind enough to take pics of the...
Aware of the distance
I was going to post a bunch of sunny, happy photos of the last few days in Melbourne. Then I got a very sad email — my uncle lost his battle with cancer.
Here, on the other side of the world, I want more than anything to be able to hug my mom. My heart hurts.
Update: Thank you for the kind words. Rob wins for explaining how to Skype call my mom, and now I’m just Skype calling/chatting with...
Bondi to Bronte
New on Answering Oliver — Day 30: Bondi to Bronte
Well, technically Double Bay to Bondi to Bronte and back.
Why yes, I wore my Garmin for this nice long walk. Lots of stopping to take pictures in miles three, four and six. : )
Goodbye, New Zealand
Today was my last full day in New Zealand, and my last day on the Stray backpacker bus that’s taken me all through the country.
This was my view at 7:45 a.m. as I took my last bus ride to Christchurch. At one point I had a driver who played this song first thing every morning, so I’ll always associate it with driving through NZ and watching some of the most amazing scenery fly by.

I be all up in the mountains
Hellooooo from Mt. Cook National Park!
I did a quick 3-mile run upon arriving here just to check out the scenery. It’s beautiful, of course. I’ll let you know when I find an ugly place in New Zealand (never-ish).
I was a little huffy and puffy on this run, and I was like, WTF? I just ran seven yesterday!
Then I checked out the elevation stats on the Garmin Web site. Queenstown is...
