Queenstown 4-miler
Queenstown is one helluva city!
It’s a resort town that’s known as the Adventure Capital of the World, and “every night is Friday night” at the crazy bars. It’s absolutely gorgeous when it’s sunny… but it ain’t half bad for a rainy morning run along Lake Wakatipu, either.
Apparently fancy people like Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise own homes in...
Warm, rainy run
It was warm and rainy this morning when I did this little run through downtown Nelson, New Zealand…
…and now it’s cold and rainy. Boo.
I had no clue where I was running, but at one point I ended up in a beautiful place called the Queens Garden that was filled with vibrant flowers, romantic arbors and a peaceful, duck-filled pond.
It was quite a nice place to stop, catch my...
Now that I'm on the South Island...
I just put up a proper blog post on Answering Oliver:
Whirlwind Weeks on NZ’s North Island
It’s tough to sit down and write amongst all the activities going on around me, but I’ve been taking it easy these past few days and managed to put this together.
Good things.
Getting my groove back in Wellington
I’ve crashed for two nights at a friend’s* place in New Zealand’s capitol and, my God, did I need the break from constant bus travel, adrenaline-pumping activities and hostels swarming with twenty-somethings. I’ve been traveling now for exactly two weeks.
Wellington has helped me slow down and recharge. Its stunning waterfront also lured me out in the late afternoon for my...
First NZ run
I ran 3 miles along the water in Auckland this morning! It’s another beautiful, sunny day. I applied plenty of SPF 50 beforehand since I got a bit burned yesterday.
My route was kind of crazy because I didn’t know where there was a good running path. I ended up following an extremely tan woman running with her dog for a while, and that did the trick.
It was slowww and felt tough.

Hi from New Zealand!
Auckland is sunny. Auckland is warm. I’m not hating it!
I walked around a lot today and scoped out a good running route along the water. It reminded me quite a bit of Vancouver’s waterfront/cruise ship area. I plan to get in a nice run tomorrow morning!
In the meantime, I just put up a post on Answering Oliver all about what I packed for my trip. Click through for exhaustive...
chrisrunsoldschool asked: I have a bigger question than how you could afford it, is....how are you going to afford life when you get back? Thats the part that would scare me most. I have no debt, and the money to travel the word for a year, but...when I got back, and had no job, no place to live, no way to cover living expenses, food, etc, then what? That would scare the crap outta me!
The post many have wondered about...
How I Can Afford to Travel the World
{A lot of self-control, some extra effort and a bit of good luck.}
{Two days!!!}
Three miles of hills
I’m crashing on my mom’s couch for a few days before I leave on my trip, and holy hell, her Woodinville neighborhood is full of hills.
I was huffin’ and puffin’ during the first 30 seconds of my run today because no matter which way you turn on my mom’s street, you go up a hill!
So this run was a little slower than usual, but trust me, it was challenging and a...
