Smile Friday!
Some pics Coach Rose took at Body Pump last night. I’m in the purple top.
(I was smiling on the inside.)
Anonymous asked: Hi there -- I recently moved to Seattle, and I am looking for a running group. I notice that you go track workouts every week. Is it an open-membership club? Is there a fee? How can I find out more? Thanks - and congrats on your great race this past weekend. J
My return to the gym
Oh yeah, I belong to a gym! I’ve been running outside so much that I haven’t been to my gym in more than a month. I know because the last time I was there, I checked out some books from the nearby library, and now they’re about a week overdue…
So I returned the books, and returned to the gym for a quick 1.5 treadmill run, immediately followed by a 75-minute power yoga...

…get crystalized salt stains on their face from sweat? THIS girl, right here!
Had a great track workout with the DetermiNation team last night: 1.5 mile warmup, 4 x 400 fast w/200 easy running in between, 1 mile cooldown — total of 4 miles in 35:45.
I’m feeling much, much stronger than the last time I did a speed workout!
Went straight to the Whole Foods salad bar to grab...
More Seattle's Best 15K stats
I was…
150/427 overall
7/28 in my division (F 20-24)
45/253 of all females
I’m pretty happy!
Today, as with every Tuesday, the weather has miraculously cleared up and it’s sunny just in time for track practice with the team.
I really don’t feel like going… but I will. That’s when I know I need to go the most!
irunnyc replied to your post: Race dreams
I think you can do even better than those predicted times! You already saw that during this race, your 10k time was better than your last race. You’re training and improving constantly, so aim high and if anyone is capable of doing it, it’s you!
Self-doubt has always held me back from going after big goals — this wonderful comment is a great...
Race dreams
I think these predicted finish times, based on my 15K time, are looking pretty sexy.
A sub 2-hour half-marathon and 4:09 marathon? Yes, please!
I know that so many factors go into finish times and these are just based on formulas, but still… I like to dream!
I didn’t work out tonight and instead tackled some nagging tasks, like cleaning the bathroom and putting away all my...

Raffle WINNERS!
6 days. 40 generous people. $963 raised for the American Cancer Society (my math was obviously a little fuzzy last night… but we didn’t quite hit $1,000 either way).
I’d say The Best Running Raffle EVER! was a great success!
Huge thanks to EVERYONE who donated, and to those who reblogged, Facebooked and otherwise spread the word about this raffle. We went from having three...
Seattle's Best 15K recap
Despite how confident I tried to seem about this race, I was so nervous! My stomach started roiling on Thursday. On Friday, I tried to keep busy and think about anything but the race. On Saturday morning, I was a nervous wreck. I ate a banana on the way to Gas Works Park and almost puked halfway through it.
And the weather? So much for the email about it being “perfect.” It rained as...
Surprise birthday dinner!
Aaron took me out for a birthday dinner and surprised me with the presence of my best friends of 10+ years. I am so impressed with him for organizing it because it is VERY hard to get all these busy ladies in the same room at once! I got all misty-eyed that they came together for a surprise dinner.
I had ricotta gnocchi with shredded duck and shaved carrots.
Aaron had linguine with...
It's 5:45 a.m. and the world hasn't ended yet.
Let’s go run 9.3.
roundisntmyshapeanymore asked: Did you get your purple shirt from old navy? If so, I have the same one and it's my favorite! I wish I could wear shorts. Instead I'm wearing jeans and a sweater cause it's freezing!
Day off!
Smile Friday: Making the video edition. Not sure why I busted out this creepy half-smile. Watch out… I might try to Remeem your Soul!
I’m home today trying to get lots of stuff done before a busy weekend! I cleaned the heck outta this kitchen:
In preparation for friends coming over tomorrow night for a birthday dessert potluck and consumption of this:
Yes, I bought a case of...
Tomorrow, May 21, is my first 15K race. My first run of more than 8 miles. My 24th birthday. And the final day of the raffle.
I’m ready.
Are you?
Please reblog if you like the video! : )

DUDE. This dog is beating my fundraising total by $26 right now!
Bravo, Dozer. I’m not even upset. I get it… you’re way cuter than I am!
runnersworld:
The Baltimore Sun is reporting that Dozer, a three-year-old Goldendoodle who lives along the Maryland Half-Marathon course, escaped his invisible fence and started running with the pack during Sunday’s race sometime before mile...
I've returned to The Twitter
@devonamills
I kind of abandoned it when I got sucked in by The Tumblr.
I can’t promise what I tweet will be much different or more interesting than what I post here, but I do have an archive of more than 1,000 tweets that might be kinda fun to read through if you’re bored.
Especially since my family has been known to hold events like “The Whiskey Challenge.”
Anyone still awake?
If so, the “Swiss Bonus,” in honor of Lucas, is still effect for another 30 minutes — until midnight Pacific time!
That means if you donate any amount to my American Cancer Society fundraising efforts by midnight, you’ll not only be entered to win a prize from The Best Running Raffle EVER!, but you’ll get 5 extra entries to boot! That means:
- A $5 donation equals 1 entry...
Eat my dust!
Two quick (for me) miles. Last run before the 15K. I definitely won’t be running this fast in the race, but it was nice to knock these miles out in the beautiful sunshine!
Speaking of sunshine, this was part of an email about the race today…
Sha-bam!
This was also part of that email. Please note that my job title is literally “Proofreader”:
I just… I just...
Switzerland for the win!
Yesterday, I received this message from a guy named Lucas:
I wanted to do a donation, but it doesn’t seem to work because I’m outside the US (I’m from Switzerland) I do realize that it is the AMERICAN cancer society, but I find pretty cool and selfless what you are doing, and I wanted to participate… Also, I obviously don’t want to participate in the prize...
The Active Artist: Fitblr Convention Facelift →
Very cool for anyone who wants to rock with a bunch of awesome people in D.C. this summer! Alex has clearly put enormous amounts of effort into organizing this, not to mention REorganizing it to be more affordable. Way to go, Alex!

Fitblr Convention has been revamped!

Wow
I received a message this morning from an old friend, who I guess would be called a “frenemy” nowadays. In 5th and 6th grade, we were either BFFs or we were in a huge fight, depending on the day. At some point we ended our friendship entirely, and I moved away a few years later. I’m sure the last thing I ever said to her was something cruel and hurtful (ohh, 12-year-old me).

Hill repeats and fuel belt test run!
My new pink Under Armour shirt and Nathan fuel belt match perfectly! Both were birthday gifts from Aaron. Style-savvy boyfriend for the win!
Tonight I did hills with the DetermiNation team — 8 repeats — and some laps around the track for a total of 4 miles. I’m pretty happy that, even with the hills, my average pace was 10:11. That’s OK, right?
I wore the fuel belt to test it out...
fabfit asked: Saw your reply to the fitwacher's hydration post .... Hello Hydration Buddy! I thought I was crazy because I chug upwards of 8 500mL water bottles per day .... plus I'm a tea addict. As in, if I don't have a cup of tea on me, something is wrong with the world ... But then, behold, a fellow drinker! Ahoy :)
Btw, you are amazing. And your race photos are rad. And since...
