Thanks for the NYC feedback!
I’m thinking the first weekend of October. Exciting! Side note: I had my heart set on attending NYU. I got in, and even got some amazing scholarships, but it was still gonna be ridiculously expensive. I went to the University of Washington instead and am now thankful I have $0 in student-loan debt instead of $80,000+. (Thank you for your wise advice when I was a crazy 18-year-old, Mom.)...
"You Wont Be Able To Do It"
“Those who say it can’t be done are usually interrupted by others doing it.” —James Baldwin Watch out, talkers, the doers are coming through! Go Alex!!! activeartist: When are people going to learn? If you tell me I wont be able to do something *cough* 10K *cough*, I’m just going to want to do it more. Glad I have somebody to prove wrong now.
Attention New Yorkers!
I’m going to visit your fair city in 2011 (it’s on my list), but the question is: When? The open window is July through October. I’d like to take a four-day weekend and hopefully enjoy some warm and/or sunny weather. Or fall is nice, too. Have any advice?
Gun Show Thursday
Who makes these things up? At RunWithRach’s encouragement, I decided to check up on the status of my own guns. What I found was kind of pathetic: I can barely do a single regular pushup. Last fall, I could do 10 regular pushups, and my all-time record is 12 (after a few shots of tequila; that story is here, about halfway down). Time to work on my upper-body strength so I don’t just...
I locked myself out.
Got home from work. Pulled out my keychain. Car key, gas key, bottle opener. No house key. Luckily, one of my roomies was driving nearby and stopped off to let me in. GUESS WHERE I FOUND MY KEY?

OK, so this happened: I tried to run in the hail, you guys. (Full disclosure: the lowest point on the graph was when I tried to hide under a tree.) I only headed home when the hail started pelting my face and threatening to blind me. Yeah… that’s what happened. My sweatshirt, shirt and capris were soaked, so I changed into a whole new outfit and put on my trusty baseball cap. Then...
No running tonight. Just… Fried macaroni and cheese. Wild mushroom and goat cheese ravioli. Grilled beef loin with red wine bordelaise. Birthday cupcake! A fab birthday dinner! Photos by Aaron, the waitress and me.
I dated a string of guys who were not good for me. Then I decided to stop dating for a while and wait for someone really, really great. Here’s what I learned: Wait for the guy who will run slowly with you even though he can run much faster without you. Wait for the guy who will offer to help you move before you even start looking for a place. Wait for the guy who will become text buddies...
