29:13
Got it. 29:13. I can’t believe it! There were so many times that I stopped to walk for 20-30 seconds and thought, “There’s no way I’m breaking 30.” I wasn’t feeling this run until just after the two-mile mark, when I realized that I could power through the rest and be OK. It rained. There was one huge hill. I had a bad start because I waited for the masses to...

Pumpkin Push playlist!
The Pumpkin Push 5K is tomorrow morning! I made this playlist exactly 30 minutes long. Big time. 1. Welcome to the World — Kevin Rudolph 2. Club Can’t Handle Me — Flo Rida feat. David Guetta 3. E-Pro — Beck 4. Starlight — Muse 5. Like a G6 — Far East Movement 6. 1901 — Phoenix 7. Uprising — Muse 8. Waiting for the End — Linkin Park The first two are the same as my Dawg Dash playlist...

Tonight.
I decided to put 50 minutes on the treadmill and see how much of it I could run and how far I could go. I ran the whole time. 4.8 miles! I was doing about an 11 min pace for the first mile, 10.5 for the second, then settled in at 10 min/mile for the rest of the way. It got so much easier after the first two. And after I surpassed my previous nonstop running record of 3.76 miles… well, I...

Ha! So true
I’m obsessed with Ben Does Life, as is my mom. Ben has definitely inspired me to get more serious about running (as in going from not serious at all to, “Hey, maybe I could actually be good at this if I really try”) and I’ll make it no secret that this blog is modeled after his. What he posted this morning is so incredibly true that it made me laugh out loud. ...

Exhaustion... and the next 5K
I just napped from 4:15 to about 7:45. Interesting choice for a Sunday, but so necessary. This is called “getting your game face on.” Pretty sure Jake Locker does this before every Husky game. I may be doing another 5K next weekend: Neighborhood Health’s Pumpkin Push at Seward Park. Mom and Don were going to do the Running Scared 5K at Seward Park on Halloween morning (Sunday),...

Official time!
I did better than I thought! Time: 30:26 Pace: 9:48 389th place (of 1,205 overall) 163rd place (of 743 females) 68th place (of 222 females age 20-29) I’m happy that: I was only 27 seconds off my goal time My pace was under 10 minutes/mile I finished before the end of the that Linkin Park song and didn’t have to finish Australian rap-style I think if I can just increase my...

Dawg Dash done!
The rain magically cleared up for the awesome 5K/10K race at my alma mater! The sun even came out right after I finished. Now it’s dumping again, Noah’s ark style. The clock said 31:25 as I crossed the finish line, but my time was prob more like 31:10 since I started near the mid/end of the pack with the 10/11 minute pacers. All I know is that I finished before the end of Linkin Park! Had to...

5K playlist
I don’t usually run listening to music, but since I’m running this one alone (Mom is spectating/photographing, Don will smoke me), I decided I’d probably benefit from some musical motivation: 1. Welcome to the World — Kevin Rudolph 2. Club Can’t Handle Me — Flo Rida feat. David Guetta 3. Poker Face — Lady GaGa 4. Fire Burning — Sean Kingston 5. Like a G6 — Far East...

5K times
Times recorded for 3.1 miles on a treadmill, unless otherwise noted: [Please note that the first three times represent 100% of the occasions that I had ever attempted to run 3.1 miles before my first race. So, yeah. New to this.] Sept. 6 — 38:54 Sept. 20 — 36:32 Sept. 22 — 36:23 Sept. 26 — 33:32 (Fremont Oktoberfest 5K) Sept. 29 — 35:40 Oct. 12 — 35:20 Oct. 16 — 31:10 (at a local junior high...

I'll have
a vegetarian bowl with… black beans rice green peppers and onions two scoops of pico lettuce guac on the side (no cheese) (no sour cream) and two Tums for dessert (heartburn = worth it) This is the key to eating Chipotle for lunch without the debilitating fullness afterward.

Amateur.
I’ve had pain in my right knee during and after running for the past few months. The entire day after running it was always stiff, and I would hobble around in pain wondering if running was even worth it. Then my mom’s boyfriend noticed that I slid my running shoes on and off instead of re-tying them each time I ran. He laughed at me. I re-tied them so they fit much more snugly and ran one mile;...
